Serie A TIM TV rights 2021-2024: Sky Italia acquires non-exclusive rights to 3 games per matchday

The pay-TV operator Sky Italia has acquired the non-exclusive broadcasting rights to 3 out of 10 Serie A TIM games per matchday for the 2021-2024 cycle in Italy (lot 2), announced Lega Serie A on 15/05/2021. The rights were acquired for €87.5m per season according to Italian press.

Sky Italia yesterday dropped its legal challenge against the awarding of the full broadcasting rights (7 out of 10 matches on an exclusive basis and the other 3 on a non-exclusive basis) to DAZN. The platform had acquired these rights for €840m per season on 26/03/2021.

The domestic broadcasting rights to the Serie A TIM have therefore been awarded for a total sum of €927.5m over the 2021-2024 cycle. This amount is down by €45.5m (-4.7%) compared to the current cycle (2018-2021).

The other potential candidates for this lot were the American e-commerce group Amazon, the American audiovisual group Discovery (parent company of the pay-TV group Eurosport) and the Italian audiovisual group Mediaset (especially if one of the matches was available free-to-air), according to Italian media reports.
