The round of 16 Germany - Algeria match (2-1 aet) of the 2014 World Cup (Brazil, from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) was watched on average by 28.21m viewers in Germany on the public channel ZDF. It lasted from 22:00 CET on 30/06 to 00:30 CET on 01/07/2014.

ZDF had an audience share of 85.1% for this game. This is a new record in Germany for the national selection at the 2014 World Cup, as well as for all other broadcasting of the championship.

The previous record was for Germany - USA (1-0, group phase, on 26/06/2014), which landed ZDF 27.25m viewers in Germany and an 84.2% audience share in spite of its kickoff at 18:00 CET.

The round of 16 France - Nigeria match (2-0), also broadcast by ZDF, was watched by 11.5m viewers on average (an audience share of 50.3%) from 18:00 to 19:55.

  • In Germany, the two public TV channels ARD and ZDF co-broadcast the 2014 World Cup. The cost of the rights was estimated at €150m to €180m.
  • Each of these two channels broadcast 32 of the 64 games of the tournament. The final will be broadcast on ARD on 13/07/2014.
