Ligue 1 TV rights: plans for a channel costing €10 or €11/month presented to club presidents (press)

The LFP has presented club presidents with a project for a channel costing €10 or €11 per month to broadcast eight out of 10 Ligue 1 Uber Eats matches and possibly the Ligue 2 BKT multiplex (eight games per matchday, currently broadcast by beIN Sports for the end of the 2020-21 season) in France over the 2021-2024 cycle, according to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 20/05/2021.

The operating cost of this channel has been estimated at €56m per year and the LFP is counting on revenues of €200m after two seasons. It would rely on a partner, which has not yet been chosen, for all the technical aspects (production of matches, broadcasting resources, control rooms, etc.). There are three of them in the running, but it should not be from Téléfoot, a former Mediapro channel. The aim is to produce something different, with programmes concentrated between 18:00 and midnight on weekdays and more widely on weekends around matches. However, it is not impossible that former Téléfoot employees (journalists, technicians, etc.) could be recruited individually," said L'Équipe.
