Bundesliga International: DFL ends discussions with investors "for now"

The DFL has decided to end discussions with third-party companies regarding investments in one of its subsidiaries "for now" at an extraordinary members assembly on 19/05/2021.

The DFL had sent a document to some 30 private equity firms offering them the opportunity to acquire shares in two new entities dedicated to the marketing of the international media and marketing rights to the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga, in March 2021.

"Having weighed up the facts, the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga clubs decided not to continue the talks at the present time. Independent of this, there was agreement that it is essential that clubs and DFL work together on concepts for accelerating international marketing," explained the German league.

"The negotiations focused on a potential entity for the marketing of international media rights, among other things. The renowned investment bank Nomura was charged with organising and guiding the bidding process. The parties agreed not to disclose details of the bids," added the DFL.
