FIFA: feasibility study to analyse the impact of holding World Cups every two years

The impact of organising the men's and women's World Cups every two years instead of four at present, is the subject of a feasibility study that the 71^st FIFA Congress, convened by videoconference, decided to launch on 21/05/2021 at the proposal of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.

"We need to study what kind of competitions we need. Team football is very important for the development of football. From 2024, there will be a new calendar. We have to see what will be the most useful, the most sensible. Is it one year with a World Cup and the next year with continental competitions? What would be the consequences in terms of matches, players' health, national championships? We will see and we will decide," said FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the end of the Congress.

The 71^st Congress approved two other proposals submitted by member associations:
• That a broad consultation be carried out to explore the opportunities for developing a concept of international women's competitions, including a World League (proposed by the Jamaica Football Federation).
