LaLiga Santander: Club Atlético de Madrid to increase capital by a record €181.8m

"The board of directors of Club Atlético de Madrid, who met today, have agreed to call an extraordinary general shareholders' assembly to submit for approval a capital increase of €181.8m, with preferential subscription rights for existing shareholders," announced the Spanish club on 24/05/2021.

"The purpose of the capital increase is to mitigate the adverse economic effects caused by the pandemic on the club's revenue this season (2020-21), as well as to reduce the level of debt caused by both the investment in the new stadium (the Wanda Metropolitano, inaugurated in September 2017) and the acquisition of players to maintain the level of competitiveness of the first team," added Atlético de Madrid, who won their 11^th Spanish league title on Matchday 38, the final matchday of the 2020-21 season on 22/05/2021 (see below).
