Brazil 2014: Online bets in France up 19% to €79.9m, compared to 2010 World Cup (ARJEL)

€79.9m worth of online bets have been recorded in France since the beginning of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil (12/06 to 13/07/2014), said the ARJEL (French Regulatory Authority of Online Games) on 02/07/2014.

The online bets in France for the group stages and the round of 16 (56 games) are 19% higher than those recorded throughout the entire 2010 World Cup in South Africa (€67m). "Online betting operators predict €100m worth of online bets for the 2014 World Cup," the French sports betting operator PMU told News Tank on 18/06/2014.

Round of 16 matches for the 2014 World Cup generated an average of €2.09m in online bets each. This is €790,000 more than for an average group stage match (€1.3m).

The three fixtures that generated the greatest total value for online bets in France during the 2014 World Cup all featured the French national team: Ecuador-France (€2.99m), France-Honduras (€2.78m) and Switzerland-France (€2.67m).
