Champions League: "Personally I'm in favour of a Final 4 over a week" (A. Ceferin, UEFA)

"We liked the 'Final 8' last year in Portugal. But a 'Final 8' is over two weeks and that's too much. For a 'Final 4' (semi-finals and final in one city), after 2024, there are advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it can be a fantastic event with a football week complemented by other events like concerts. But we lose matches, especially at home, for the clubs. But I personally would like to see it happen. I'm in favour of a Final 4 in the Champions League," said Aleksander Ceferin, UEFA president, to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 29/05/2021.

"I don't know when to insert a one or two week tournament in May. I think it's impossible," said the president of the European confederation on 13/08/2020.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the 2019-20 Champions League were played as an eight-team (the "Final 8") knockout tournament at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Estádio José Alvalade, in Lisbon (POR), from 12 to 23/08/2020.
