Facebook top social network for those following World Cup in Brazil, USA & UK

Amongst Brazilian, American and British internet users following the 2014 World Cup (Brazil, from 12/06 to 13/07/2014), 93% use Facebook and 59% use Twitter, according to the study "World Cup Behaviours" published on 27/06/2014 by GlobalWebIndex, an English firm specialised in research on consumer behaviour.

In Brazil, 91% of internet users are following the World Cup, compared to 86% in Britain and 81% in America. In these three countries, 52% of users follow the 2014 World Cup by discussing it with their friends and 51% do so on Facebook.

In Brazil, the mobile messaging application WhatsApp is used by 57% of internet users, making it the second-most-used application behind Facebook (92%) but ahead of Twitter (51%), Instagram (32%) and Google + (31%). WhatsApp is used by only 28% of British and 12% of American internet users.

In a survey, 33% of internet users believe that Nike is one of the principal sponsors of the 2014 World Cup, even though the kit supplier of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), which organises the tournament, is Adidas.
