Bundesliga: an average of 507,000 subscribers on Sky in 2020-21, best audience over 2017-2021 cycle

263 of the 266 matches of the 2020-21 Bundesliga season (played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic) broadcast by the pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland posted a cumulative audience of over 133 million viewers, or more than 507,000 subscribers on average per match (+5% vs 2019-20). These figures represent the best cumulative audience and the best average audience for the Bundesliga on Sky Deutschland over the 2017-2021 rights cycle.

The three 2020-21 Bundesliga matches broadcast free-to-air by the German public TV channel ZDF drew an average of 5.7 million viewers (-6.5% vs 2019-20). This is the lowest audience over the 2017-2021 cycle.

FC Bayern Munich (champions) again dominated the club rankings with an average of 1.148 million viewers (-2.1% vs 2019-20), ahead of Borussia Dortmund (third in the league, an average of 893,000 viewers, -2.4%) and FC Schalke 04 (18^th and relegated to the 2.Bundesliga, 633,000 viewers, stable) for the fourth consecutive year of this rights cycle.
