Ligue 1 TV rights: "Transition to 18 clubs would be an important step" (Maxime Saada, Canal+)

"I have always said that I defend the idea of an 18-club model (for Ligue 1) and this has not changed. We should even be more ambitious, the Top 14 is the perfect example, but this transition to 18 would already be an important step," said Maxime Saada, president of the board of directors at Canal+ group, to the French sports daily L'Équipe, on 01/06/2021, while a general assembly of the LFP is due to take place this Thursday 03/06/2021.

Canal+ is ready to make an offer of between €350m and €380m per season, according to L'Équipe, to broadcast two Ligue 1 Uber Eats fixtures (1st and 3rd choice), on Sunday nights at 21:00 CET and Saturdays at 17:00, over the 2021-2024 cycle. The group currently holds the broadcasting rights (lot 3, see below) to two Ligue 1 Uber Eats fixtures per matchday (Saturday 21:00 and Sunday 17:00; 28 first choice, 10 third choice, 38 fourth choice matches) over the 2020-2024 cycle, acquired under sublicense from beIN Sports for €330m per season, on 09/12/2019.
