LFP: transition to 18 clubs in Ligue 1 in 2023-24 on the agenda of the general assembly (03/06/2021)

A transition from 20 to 18 clubs in Ligue 1, but only from the 2023-24 season, will be on the agenda of the Ligue de Football Professionnel's general assembly to be convened this afternoon (Thursday 06/03/2021), on the eve of the federal assembly of the FFF on Friday 04/06/2021.

The Collège de Ligue 1 - the body that brings together the 20 clubs under the presidency of Jean-Pierre Caillot, president of Stade de Reims (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) - has in fact accepted a 10% reduction in the number of teams competing in the French championship, but with a delay of one season on the planned schedule, confirmed Jean-Pierre Caillot to the French Radio station Europe 1 on 02/06/2021.

In concrete terms, four Ligue 1 clubs will be relegated at the end of the 2022-23 season, while two Ligue 2 clubs will, conversely, be promoted to the top flight.
