TV rights: "I'm not sure that Ligue 1 will be on Canal+ next year" (M. Saada, Canal+)

"I don't think we're holding onto football. I don't think we are alone. I've been at Canal+ for 17 years and every time we thought we were alone, a new operator came along. Amazon had positioned itself during the call for tenders (in February 2021), Discovery (Eurosport's parent company) too. I can' t be sure that Amazon will not make an offer in the next few days. I'm not sure that Ligue 1 will be on Canal+ next year," said Maxime Saada, president of the board of directors at Canal+ group, on the French radio station RMC, on 09/06/2021.

"We currently have Lot 3 with 28 fixtures (28 first choice matches excluding the Top 10) that we have sub-licensed from beIN Sports, but we may find ourselves in the same situation as we were in February (2021). If Amazon had recovered the lots formerly held by Mediapro for an amount that we would have considered discriminatory, we would have sought to return our lot," explained Maxime Saada.
