1.3m people in Germany have downloaded and installed SportSchau FIFA WM App -- which is dedicated to the 2014 World Cup -- onto their smartphones or computer tablets during the group stage (from 12 to 26/06/2014), announced the app's creator ARD, the German public broadcaster.

This is twice the number of downloads and installations for the mobile app ZDFmediathek, which was downloaded and installed by 650,000 people during the group stage of the World Cup. The two German public TV channels ARD and ZDF each broadcast 32 of the 64 fixtures in the tournament.

The two applications dedicated to the World Cup offer the same services. Available for free on iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8, these applications enable their users to follow the games live on their smartphones or computer tablets with 20 different camera angles. The applications also include newsfeeds, videos, statistics, and the calendar and results of the 2014 World Cup.

Thanks to the 2014 World Cup, ZDF now has 3,650,000 users of its mobile app ZDFmediathek (up 21.6% in 14 days).
