"Following yesterday's agreement between the Premier League, The FA and the six clubs involved in the proposals to form a European Super League (Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Manchester United FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC, see below), shareholders (all twenty 2021-22 Premier League clubs) today approved rules to further protect the League against any future competition breakaways," announced the English League on 10/06/2021.

The new rules consist mainly of a range of sanctions that could be implemented by the Premier League against any club wishing to enter a private European or world league without its approval, or that of UEFA or FIFA.

"Clubs also agreed to the principle of an Owners' Charter, which will reaffirm the values and expectations placed on clubs and their owners. These additional rules and regulations are being put in place to ensure the principles of the Premier League and open competition are protected and provide certainty and stability for our clubs and their fans," added the Premier League.
