Bundesliga: German league considers introducing goal-line technology and video refereeing

The DFL (German professional football league) plans to introduce goal-line technology and sees video refereeing as "a tool that could be very useful to reduce errors," said Christian Seifert, CEO of DFL, on 30/06/2014.

"Goal-line technology works. We must think more intensively about introducing it," said Christian Seifert. "Even if there are still many open questions, the introduction of video refereeing is becoming increasingly important; even FIFA is talking about it. These ideas will be discussed at the next league board meeting in August 2014."

Wolfgang Niersbach, president of the DBF (German Football Association), had said on 28/06/2014 that he was in favour of the introduction of goal-line technology but not video refereeing. This stance is "not irreconcilable" with that of the DFL, said Seifert.
