Liverpool FC: Liverpool City Council grants planning permission for Anfield extension

Liverpool City Council has approved the planning application submitted in November 2020 by Liverpool FC (Premier League) for its project to extend the Anfield Road stand (corner) at Anfield (53,394 capacity), announced the Merseyside club on 15/06/2021.

Having refurbished one of the two main stands (the "Main Stand") in 2016 to add around 9,000 seats, Liverpool FC are now looking to increase the total capacity of Anfield to over 61,000 by adding around 7,000 seats to the Anfield Road Stand.

The club's planning application follows a lengthy process of public consultation with local residents, local businesses, fans and other stakeholders in December 2019 and February 2020, which gathered over 700 responses "with the vast majority of respondents expressing support for the plans."

"As part of the application, the club has also been awarded permission to hold up to six concerts and major events at the stadium for a period of five years," said Liverpool FC, which will also be testing the use of seats with safety rails over a 12-month period (see below).
