Women's football: UC Sampdoria acquires Florentia San Gimignano (Serie A TIMvision)

The women's team of UC Sampdoria (Serie A TIM) will compete in the Serie A TIMvision, the Italian women's top flight, from the 2021-22 season, according to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the competition's organising body, on 15/06/2021. The Genoese club has acquired the sporting rights of Florentia San Gimignano, a club based in Tuscany, who finished seventh during the 2020-21 season (see below).

"Sampdoria would like to thank everyone at Florentia and indeed all those who have contributed to this project, which has long been a priority for the club. It represents a new step for Sampdoria and a welcome return for the city of Genoa, with important social, cultural and sporting implications," said the club.

Other Serie A TIMvision clubs had made similar moves to introduce a women's team into the top flight. Juventus FC, the 2020-21 champions for the fourth consecutive time, bought the sporting rights to Cuneo Calcio at the end of the 2016-17 season. AC Milan, meanwhile, bought the rights to Brescia Calcio for the 2018-19 season.
