LFP TV rights 2021-2024: "All the leagues in the world are looking to Amazon" (V. Labrune, LFP)

"Amazon is destined to become one of the biggest players in the sports rights market over the next twenty years. It is incidentally a partner that all the leagues in the world are looking forward to having in the future. You'd have to be crazy to refuse Amazon, to let this train go by, and to take the risk that it won't come back the next time," said Vincent Labrune, president of the LFP, to the French sports daily L'Équipe, on 18/06/2021.

Amazon acquired the exclusive rights to 80% of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats (including the top 10 fuxtures each season) and Ligue 2 BKT matches, over the 2021-2024 cycle, for €259m per year, on 11/06/2021 (see details below).

"Canal+ and beIN Sports objectively had a major advantage: the visibility of our product in the short term. However, at the LFP, our job is not to manage the day-to-day in a minimalist and conservative way. Our job is to prepare the future through ambitious reforms in the medium term.
