Premier League: Manchester United unveil shirt with Chevrolet logo for 2014-15

Manchester United (Premier League) unveiled their 2014-15 shirts -- featuring the logo of American automaker Chevrolet -- on 07/07/2014.

The shirt sponsorship deal with Chevrolet is the largest in the world at €51m annually beginning in 2014-15. The amount will increase by 2.1% each year to reach €58m in 2020-21. Chevrolet also paid €28m for 2012-2014 without a presence on the club's shirt.

The General Motors group, which owns the Chevrolet brand, reached an agreement with the English club in July 2014 to occupy the space held by the insurer Aon from 2009 to 2014. General Motors had announced on 21/05/2013 that Chevrolet would withdraw from European market by the end of 2015; the group wants to focus on its Opel and Vauxhall brands in the European continent. The international popularity of Manchester United helps explain GM's strategy in sponsoring them with a brand that will no longer be sold in the UK.

GM is also a sponsor of Liverpool (€5.6m per year through 2015-16) and decided to replace Chevrolet with Vauxhall as the club's partner brand.
