Euro 2020: "In Africa, many private channels broadcast the competition" (H. Hamel, TVMS)

"We have sold the rights to Euro 2020 in 30 African countries in the sub-Saharan zone, south of the beIN Sports zone (North Africa). The big news is that many private free-to-air channels have acquired these rights at the expense of the national public channels," said Hédi Hamel, president of TV Média Sport, a French media rights agency, to News Tank Football on 22/06/2021.

"This is the case in Senegal, for example, where it is TFM, a channel owned by Youssou Ndour (a musician and politician) that broadcasts the Euro, and not the public service. The same is true in Cameroon with Canal 2 International, in the Ivory Coast with Live TV, in Benin with Canal 3, in Kenya with KTN, as well as in Burkina Faso (BF1) and Tanzania (Groupe Azam). This is a real media upheaval for a potential market of 500 million viewers," said Hédi Hamel.
