Serie A: Sky Italia appeals to Competition Authority to contest agreement between TIM and DAZN

The pay-TV operator Sky Italia is taking its case to the Antitrust (Italian Competition Authority) to challenge the agreement signed between the telecoms operator Telecom Italia (for its TIM brand) and the OTT platform DAZN, according to the Italian news agency ANSA on 22/06/2021.

"Sky has turned to Antitrust to ensure that millions of consumers and football fans can continue to subscribe to the Serie A via a plurality of broadband providers and watch it on the platform they prefer - satellite, DTT or OTT - as they do today," Sky Italia told ANSA.

"TIM, the dominant broadband retailer, has entered into an illegitimate exclusive agreement with DAZN. This agreement prevents the OTT platform from distributing the Serie A championship through other operators, thus favouring TIM and strengthening its dominant position in the broadband market," continued the pay-TV operator, which has sought to negotiate a distribution agreement worth several hundred million euros with DAZN in recent weeks, to no avail.
