FC Girondins de Bordeaux: Gérard Lopez reaches takeover agreement with King Street & Fortress

"Following lengthy discussions over the last few days, an agreement has finally been reached between King Street (American investment firm, owner of the club), Fortress (American investment firm, main financial backer of the club) and Gérard Lopez (candidate for the takeover) validating the project led by the latter," announced FC Girondins de Bordeaux (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) on 22/06/2021.

"The guarantees requested by the board of directors, which convened in the middle of the day, were provided in the hours that followed. These last elements met the expectations of Rothschild & Co, the club's financial advisor, and the ad hoc representative (Frédéric Abitbol), thus avoiding the club being placed into administration," said the Bordeaux club.

"The takeover of FC Girondins de Bordeaux remains conditional on the finalisation of the usual contractual documentation, after consultation with the employee representative bodies, and on the confirmation by the DNCG of the possibility for the club to continue its prestigious history in Ligue 1," added the French club.
