Qatar 2022: Doha tests exterior cooling system in two fan zones in anticipation of World Cup

The cooling system that will be used in the 2022 World Cup stadiums in Qatar was tested in two fans zones in Doha (QAT): one at Katara Cultural Village and the other in the Aspire Zone Foundation, both of which broadcast 2014 World Cup games beginning 28/06/2014 (the start of the round of 16 and of Ramadan). The World Cup is being held in Brazil, from 12/06 to 13/07/2014.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (the local organising committee for the 2022 World Cup) set up these fan zones accommodating 1,500 people with four cooling columns that reduce the ambient temperature by 13°C (Doha reached 48°C to 50°C on 04/07/2014, with a humidity level of 50%). These columns consist of a cold air fan and powerful jets that spread a cooling mist.
