Instagram: Real Madrid CF becomes the first "sporting institution" to exceed 100 million followers

Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander) has become "the first sporting institution in the world" to exceed 100 million followers on the social network Instagram, according to the club on 29/06/2021.

"The latest milestone achieved by our social media accounts is further confirmation of our club's universal nature and all-round popularity. It reiterates the commitment of our millions of fans across the globe and we thank them for their eternal loyalty and support," said Real Madrid CF.

"Real Madrid continues to work on its digital transformation process in a way which allows us to transmit the image and values of our club to all of our fans, using a strategy of interaction, content and products which are crucial in continuing to set the benchmark in an increasingly competitive digital world," explained the Madrid club.

In the European Top 5, only FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) rivals Real Madrid in terms of number of followers on Instagram (97.8 million as of 29/06/2021). Juventus FC, third, are far behind with 49.5 million followers.
