Twitter: Arsenal first Premier League club to surpass 4m followers

Arsenal FC became the first Premier League club with more than 4m fans on the social network Twitter on 08/07/2014. 4,003,864 people have followed the club since April 2009. Arsenal FC were the first sports club to reach this mark in England and the third worldwide, after the Spanish clubs FC Barcelona (12m followers) and Real Madrid (11.7m followers).

Arsenal's account, which gained 1m followers in the past eight months, tweets club news and exclusive photos and videos. There are also quizzes (#ArsenalQuiz) and video discussions ("Twitter Takeover") between players and fans.

In addition to their English Twitter account, Arsenal also have regional accounts: Indonesia (72,352 followers), Japan (27,370), United States (7,305) and Vietnam (3,305).

"Last season we led successful Twitter campaigns around key events such as the signing of Mesut Ozil, the FA Cup final victory and the subsequent parade.
