Italy: Mediaset acquires TV rights to the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana 2021-2024 (€48m/year)

The private Italian TV group Mediaset has acquired the free and pay TV broadcasting rights to the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana in Italy over the 2021-2024 cycle for €48.2m per year, according to Italian media reports on 01/07/2021.

This is an increase of 37% compared to the 2018-2021 cycle (€35.5m per year) and 118% compared to 2015-2018 (€22m per year) when the rights were held over both periods by the Italian public broadcasting group RAI.

RAI retains the radio rights to the competition for €400,000 per season.

• The Coppa Italia will be organised under a new format for the 2021-2024 period. The Lega Serie A board has unanimously approved the new competition format.

• The tournament will be organised according to a tennis-style draw consisting of 40 teams: 36 of them will be entered directly, while the other 4 will come from a preliminary round that will include 8 clubs, with direct matches. 4 Lega Pro (third division) clubs will participate in the renewed Coppa Italia, as well…
