Brazil: Disney (ESPN, Fox Sports) acquires Ligue 1 Uber Eats broadcasting rights (2021-2024)

The Walt Disney Company has acquired the broadcast rights to the Ligue 1 Uber Eats for Brazil, over the 2021-2024 cycle, on 02/07/2021.

The competition will be broadcast via the pay-TV groups ESPN and Fox Sports as well as on the Star+ platform which is due to launch in South America on 31/08/2021. Fox Sports is due to close on 01/01/2022 due to a decision by the Brazilian competition authority following the takeover by Disney in 2019.

Over the 2018-2021 cycle, the rights to Ligue 1 were acquired for €5m per season by the OTT platform DAZN, which terminated its contract in 2020 following the premature end of the French championship at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. For the 2020-21 season, the free digital platform OneFootball held the rights to broadcast Ligue 1 in Brazil (from 31/10/2020).

In Brazil, Disney and its subsidiaries hold the broadcasting rights to the Premier League (until 2021-22), LaLiga Santander (until 2025-26) and the Europa League (until 2023-24).
