Premier League: Canal+ acquires TV rights in Czech Republic+Slovakia & renews in France (2022-2025)

The French pay-TV group Canal+ has extended its broadcasting rights to the Premier League in France for the 2022-2025 cycle on 07/07/2021. The group has also acquired these rights for the first time in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for its subsidiary M7 over the same period.

Canal+ had previously acquired the broadcasting rights in France for the 2019-2022 cycle, for a sum of €100m per season, on 31/10/2018. The group then shared these rights, on 24/05/2019, with the pay-TV bouquet RMC Sport (€50m each), which held them exclusively for the 2016-2019 cycle. The two groups will broadcast all 380 matches per season over the 2019-2022 cycle. It is not yet known (as of 07/07/2021) how much the rights for the 2022-2025 cycle were acquired for or whether Canal+ wishes to share them again with RMC Sport.

This acquisition comes almost a month after Canal+ announced that it was "withdrawing from Ligue 1". The French league is not mentioned by Maxime Saada (see below), president of the board of directors at Canal+ group, in the rights held by the group, even though it had acquired two games…
