Ligue 2 TV rights: beIN Sports to settle its July 2021 payment instalment (press)

Qatari pay-TV group beIN Sports is to settle its July 2021 payment for the broadcasting rights to Ligue 2 BKT (the first of four instalments for the 2021-22 season), worth €7.5m, as reported by the French sports daily L'Équipe on 08/07/2021. According to L'Équipe, beIN Sports still wants to discuss the overall contract price of €30m per season.

beIN Sports had acquired the rights to broadcast the two Ligue 2 fixtures per matchday over the 2020-2024 cycle, for €30m per season on 04/12/2018. The Spanish group Mediapro had acquired the rights to the other eight matches (via a multiplex) for €34m per season on the same day. Amazon acquired the Ligue 2 rights initially held by Mediapro for €9m per season, as well as the Ligue 1 rights (80% of the matches including the Top 10 fixtures) for €250m per season, on 11/06/2021.

The French pay-TV group Canal+, which announced on 11/06/2021, that it would no longer be broadcasting Ligue 1, has however informed the Ligue of the matches it does not wish to broadcast for the first matchday of the 2021-22 Ligue 1 Uber Eats season (see below). Canal…
