FIFA Emergency Committee suspends Nigeria Football Federation for government interference

The FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) Emergency Committee suspended NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) for government interference on 09/07/2014. The suspension took effect immediately.

FIFA had demanded that the Nigerian government reinstate the NFF in its roles after a regional court ordered the dissolution of the Nigerian federation for "mismanagement" on 03/07/2014.

"The suspension will be lifted once the court actions have been withdrawn and the properly elected NFF's executive committee, general assembly and administration are able to work without any interference in their affairs," said FIFA.

As a result of this decision, the NFF may not be represented in any regional, continental or international competition, including interclub competitions and friendly games. If this sanction is not be lifted by 15/07/2014, Nigeria will not be able to participate in the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup (Canada, from 05 to 24/08/2014).
