Premier League: £50m Government investment for grassroots football "welcomed" by the league

"The Premier League has welcomed the Prime Minister's (Boris Johnson) announcement (on 15/07/2021) that the Government will invest £50m in grassroots football pitches, to boost the wave of national interest in UEFA Euro 2020 and Women's UEFA Euro 2022 and inspire the stars of the future to take up the sport," announced the English league, which aims to use the money to "inspire the stars of the future to take up the sport."

The priority for the funding (available next year) is to provide communities with access to "high-quality football pitches" an ensure that throughout the UK these pitches are available locally "an average of 15 minutes" away from people, ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
