Council of Europe: Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions adopted

The Council of Europe adopted the Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions at the 1,205th meeting of the Committee of Ministers, on 09/07/2014.

"The purpose of this Convention is to prevent, detect, punish and discipline the manipulation of sports competitions, as well as enhance the exchange of information and national and international cooperation between the public authorities concerned, and with sports organisations and sports betting operators," said the Council of Europe.

The Convention will be open for signature by member and observer states of the Council of Europe, members of the European Union, and also non-member states that participated in its creation at the 13th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers Responsible for Sport in Magglingen (Switzerland) on 18/09/2014.

The Convention against manipulation of sports competitions commits signatory governments to:

  • "Prevent conflicts of interest in sports betting operators and sports organisations.
