Basketball: Barack Obama (USA) becomes a strategic partner and minority shareholder of NBA Africa

Barack Obama, President of the United States from 2009 to 2017, born to a Kenyan father, has become a strategic partner and minority shareholder of NBA Africa, the investment firm responsible for managing the affairs of the National Basketball Association in Africa, on 27/07/2021.

"President Obama will help advance the league's social responsibility efforts across the continent, including programs and partnerships that support greater gender equality and economic inclusion. In this capacity, President Obama will have a minority equity stake in the new venture, which over time he intends to use to fund Obama Foundation youth and leadership programs across Africa," explained the body.

NBA Africa oversees the league's business in Africa and organises the Basketball Africa League (BAL), whose inaugural season was held in Rwanda in May 2021 (after a one-year postponement) with 12 of the best club teams from 12 African countries.
