Euro 2020/anti-doping: no positive cases among the 1,616 samples analysed (01/01 - 11/07/2021)

"All 1,616 urine and blood samples collected from players by UEFA, FIFA and participating teams' national anti-doping organisations between 01/01/2021 and the end of the Euro 2020 tournament were negative," announced UEFA on29/07/2021.

"UEFA worked closely with the world football body FIFA and National Anti-Doping Organisations (NADOs) from several of the 24 countries that took part in the tournament to coordinate testing activities and share information. Many NADOs also provided anti-doping volunteers who assisted UEFA in the notification and chaperoning of players to the doping control station after matches," said the European body.

1,616 urine and blood samples, which represents an average of 2.59 samples per player over a period of just over six months for the 624 players selected for Euro 2020 (24 teams with 26 players). UEFA collected 1,025 samples (63.4%), while FIFA and the European NADOs collected 591 (36.6%).

The data from all these tests is stored in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) database.
