"The combined European football market contracted by 13% in 2019-20 as overall revenues fell by €3.7bn (£3.4bn) to €25.2bn (£22.1bn), the first reduction in revenues since the global financial crisis in 2008-09," states the 2021 edition of the "Annual Review of Football Finance" published by Sports Business Group at the UK audit and advisory firm Deloitte on 29/07/2021 (document available to download).

"The 'big five' European leagues (Premier League, Serie A TIM, LaLiga Santander, Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Bundesliga) generated €15.1bn (£13.2bn) in revenue in 2019-20 (€17bn/£15bn in 2018-19), an 11% decrease from the previous year" explained the report which "chronicles the Covid-19 disrupted 2019-20 season, providing an analysis of the scale and impact of the financial challenges faced by European football clubs over the financial year 2019-20, and the measures clubs have adopted whilst 'riding the challenge'.
