Italy: FIGC calls on government to adopt measures to support professional football

"Support the football system, it is fundamental for the general recovery of Italy" was the message sent by the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio in a letter to the Italian government, which included an analysis of the socio-economic impact of professional football in the country (document available to download), on 30/07/2021.

"The serious economic repercussions generated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent containment measures to which professional clubs have been subjected have now become unsustainable, jeopardising the survival of the entire sector which, as the transmitted document amply demonstrates, is in fact also slowing down Italy's general economic recovery," stated the body.

"The important results achieved so far by the FIGC, thanks to a constant and fruitful dialogue with the government (interventions in fiscal matters, reimbursement of health expenses, renewal for the football world of the provisions of the decree on impatriation, to name but a few), risk being nullified without more structural interventions at legislative level and, above all, adequate planning…
