2021-22 Ligue 1 Uber Eats: Canal+ designated as broadcaster by the LFP as part of the TV schedule

The LFP unveils the TV schedule for Matchdays 2, 3 and 4 of the 2021-22 Ligue 1 Uber Eats on 03/08/2021. As for Matchday 1 published on 21/07/2021, Canal+ has been designated by the LFP as the broadcaster for the Saturday 21:00 and Sunday 17:00 matches. The French pay-TV group has still not mentioned Ligue 1 in its programming schedule as of 04/08/2021.

Canal+ wants to terminate its sub-licensing agreement with beIN Sports for Lot 3 of the 2020-2024 Ligue 1 Uber Eats broadcasting rights, worth €332m per year. The first expiry date of this contract for the 2021-22 season is 05/08/2021. On the same day, the Commercial Court of Nanterre will decide whether or not Canal+ can terminate this contract. In case of an unfavourable decision, Canal+ can appeal the decision but the appeal would have a suspensive effect. beIN Sports and the LFP (which has joined beIN in this dispute) will, if necessary, demand that Canal+ pay €1.5m in penalties per day if the French pay-TV group fails to execute the contract (broadcast and payment).
