"Those who are against the World Cup every two years are in fact selfish, because they discriminate against billions of people only to protect their own commercial interests. They should support the possibility of giving hope to the hundreds of millions of people who inhabit our continent," said Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), to the Moroccan website Le360 Sport on 03/08/2021.

FIFA announced, at its 71st Congress on 21/05/2021, the launch of a feasibility study on the consequences of organising the men's and women's World Cups every two years instead of four at present, following a proposal by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. The project is opposed by Aleksander Ceferin, president of UEFA.
