LFP TV rights: Canal+ can't terminate sub-license agreement with beIN and will broadcast the matches

The Court of Nanterre has ruled in summary proceedings that Canal+ cannot terminate its sub-license agreement with beIN Sports for Lot 3 of the 2020-2024 Ligue 1 Uber Eats broadcasting rights on 05/08/2021. The French pay-TV group will appeal this decision (see below) although the appeal is non-suspensive.

Canal+ must respect its contractual obligations (payment, broadcasting and production of matches). beIN Sports and the LFP (which has joined beIN in this dispute) will claim €1m in compensation per day if Canal+ does not respect them, according to a source close to the case.

Canal+ wanted to terminate its sub-licensing agreement with beIN Sports for the €332m-a-year Lot 3 of the 2020-2024 Ligue 1 Uber Eats broadcasting rights. The first instalment of this contract (€55m) for the 2021-22 season was due on 05/08/2021.
