Brazil 2014: Adidas announces more than 2m German team shirts sold before final

More than 2m shirts for the German national team were sold before the final according to Herbet Hainer, CEO of Adidas, on 11/07/2014. The team won its fourth World Cup (1-0 aet against Argentina) on 13/07/2014.

The shirts were out of stock in most of German stores; approximately 500,000 shirts were sold abroad. Adidas, the kit supplier for nine nations in the 2014 World Cup, believes it will sell 8m shirts around the world, all teams included, for a 23% increase compared to the 2010 World Cup, during which 6.5m shirts were sold.

The brand put new collector's shirts for the German national team on sale on 14/07/2014, adorned with the fourth world champions' star. This model will be re-done in the next few weeks. The home and away shirts were sold for €85. Adidas is paying the German federation an estimated €26m per year through 2018 to be its kit supplier.
