Canal+ Group: termination of the RMC Sport distribution agreement (by satellite) on 17/09/2021

The Canal+ group has confirmed the termination of the distribution contract for the pay-TV package RMC Sport, for its satellite subscribers in France, as of 17/09/2021, via its customer service account on Twitter on 05/08/2021.

The contract, which began on 18/09/2018 (the start date of the 2018-19 Champions League), was worth an estimated €100m per year according to the French sports daily L'Equipe when the deal was signed. Altice France (parent company of RMC Sport) held the exclusive broadcasting rights to the European Cups for €350m per year over the 2018-2021 cycle. Altice France also held exclusive rights to the Premier League for the first year of the distribution agreement (2018-19 season).

Since the signing of this agreement, Canal+ has recovered the broadcasting rights to the Premier League for the 2019-2022 cycle and to two Champions League games per matchday (one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday) for the 2021-2024 cycle, for €100m and €310m per season respectively.
