"The arrival of Lionel Messi has turned out to be a much more accessible and realistic operation in the end than the double recruitment of Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. in 2017 (€400m in transfer fees). These operations are not at all comparable. Messi would arrive as a free player, this is not a transfer. The equation to solve here is therefore simpler: how can the club amortise in two years (the length of Messi's potential contract) a salary of €40m per season (+signing expenses and bonuses)?
