Social networks: Lionel Messi, 2^nd most followed footballer in the world behind Cristiano Ronaldo

Argentina international Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain's (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) new player, has over 350.7 million followers on the social networks Facebook and Instagram, as of 11/08/2021. The former FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) player does not have a personal account on Twitter. This makes him the second most followed footballer in the world behind Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus FC, Serie A TIM) who has 568 million followers on the three social networks as of the same date.

However, Messi is ahead of his former Barcelona teammate, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (BRA), who has 296.4 million followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The new Parisian also has a digital community 3.6 times larger than Paris Saint-Germain, who count 96.8 million followers on the three main social networks. Lionel Messi has 247 million followers on Instagram, compared with 42.7 million for the Parisian club, a figure 5.7 times higher. The Argentine forward also has more than twice as many followers as his new club on Facebook, with 103.7 million versus 42.7 million for PSG.
