Serie A: Fiorentina present feasibility study on 40,000-seat stadium to city of Florence

ACF Fiorentina (Serie A) presented a feasibility study on the construction of a new stadium to the city of Florence (Italy) on 14/07/2014.

The 40,000-seat stadium would not have a running track, unlike the Artemio-Franchi stadium (capacity 47,300) in which the club has played since 1931. The privately owned stadium would be in the Mercafir district in the north of the Tuscan capital.

The club is planning on shops, hotels, areas for hosting conferences, and a museum, in order "to ensure the overall financial stability of the initiative". Fiorentina leaders indicated that they were ready to study the possibility of building the stadium in another part of the greater urban area, provided that the thrust of the project would remain the same.

"The city of Florence, besides getting a stadium built at no public expense, would have more commercial and tourist resources that could help extend the average stays of visitors," said the club.
