Brazil 2014: ARD gets 34.65m viewers, breaking German ratings record

34.65m people on average watched the Germany - Argentina final (1-0 aet) of the 2014 World Cup (Brazil, from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) on the German public TV channel ARD from the 21:00 kickoff to midnight CET in Germany on 13/07/2014.

This meant an audience share of 86.3%, which indicates that at least 42.8% of the German population (of 80.1m in 2013) were watching the game on TV. These figures do not yet take into account viewers who watched in bars or at public projections in Germany. ARD had a peak audience of 36.4m shortly before the end of the game.

This is a new ratings record for German TV. The previous record was on 08/07/2014 for the Germany - Brazil semi-final (7-1), which was watched by 32.57m viewers (an audience share of 87.8%) on the public TV channel ZDF.

The audience share during the Germany - Argentina final reached 95.2% among spectators aged three to 13, 94.5% among those aged 14-19, 91.6% among those aged 30-39, and 81.3% among spectators aged 65 and over.
