LaLiga: draft agreement with investment firm CVC approved at general assembly by 38 out of 42 clubs

The general assembly of LaLiga has approved the "LaLiga Impulso" project with the support of 38 of its 42 member clubs, announced the Spanish league on 12/08/2021. A minimum of 32 votes were needed to validate the project linking Spanish professional football to the Luxembourg-based investment firm CVC Capital Partners.

LaLiga's executive committee announced, on 04/08/2021, a strategic agreement with CVC, according to which the latter would immediately inject €2.7bn for the benefit of the 42 Spanish professional clubs (20 in LaLiga Santander and 22 in LaLiga SmartBank), in exchange for a minority stake of approximately 10% of the capital of a new company created by LaLiga and combining "all its activities, subsidiaries and joint ventures".

Only the clubs that voted in favour of LaLiga Impulso will be included when it is implemented. It will thus not be the case for three LaLiga Santander clubs, Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona and Athletic Club Bilbao, nor for one LaLiga SmartBank club, Real Oviedo, who all voted against it.
