2021-22 Bundesliga: attendance for Matchday 1 (15,050 spectators on average per game)

Matchday 1 of the 2021-22 Bundesliga season drew an average of 15,050 spectators per game from Friday 13 to Sunday 15/08/2021. The average fill rate was only 35%.

These very low numbers, unusual for the German Championship, are explained by the partial capacity (30-50% depending on the stadium) imposed by the public authorities in all German stadiums due to the Covid-19 health crisis.

Borussia Dortmund - Eintracht Frankfurt (5-2), on Saturday 14/08/2021 (kick-off at 18:30 CET), was the game that posted the best attendance with 25,000 spectators at the Signal Iduna Park, which has a 81,365 capacity and is usually sold out for every game.

Bundesliga clubs posted an average of 44,496 spectators on Matchday 1 of the 2019-20 season (almost all of the 2020-21 season was played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 health crisis), for a fill rate of 98%.
