"The financial and economic situation of FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) is dramatic and very worrying," said Joan Laporta, president of the Catalan club, during a press conference on 16/08/2021.

A debt of €1.35bn, a loss of €481m at the end of the 2020-21 season and negative equity of €451m: these are the financial results posted by Barça and confirmed by its president, whose strategic plan should allow the club "to be in a healthy state in two years."

"The club's wage bill represents 103% of income (€617m). It is 25 to 30% above our competitors," said Joan Laporta, who thus looked back on the legacy of Josep Maria Bartomeu's management, adding that he was forced to take out an €80m loan from Goldman Sachs to be able to pay salaries as soon as he was elected president of FC Barcelona (on 07/03/2021).
