Brazil 2014: 1m foreign tourists and 3m Brazilians travelled during World Cup

1m foreign tourists from 203 countries and 3.056m Brazilians travelled in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup (12/06 to 13/07/2014), the Brazilian government reported on 14/07/2014. On average, foreign tourists stayed 13 days in Brazil, and they stayed in a total of 378 different cities.

Brazilian tourists were from states of Sao Paulo (858,825), Rio de Janeiro (260,527), Bahia (220,021) and Minas Gerais (204,425 -- this state includes the capital city of Belo Horizonte). 3.42m supporters attended games in the stadiums, whilst 5m went to the Fan Fests.

“Brazil showed itself ready to host an event of this magnitude. We now have the challenge of transforming the interest shown by foreign visitors into benefits for the population by generating employment and income," said Vinicius Lages, the Brazilian minister of tourism.

A passenger flow of 16.7m through Brazilian airports
